Hamilton’s final Art Crawl event of the year drew a smaller crowd than expected.
Art Crawl, which has been a staple of Hamilton culture for over a decade, features local artists, musicians, and vendors displaying their work along James Street North.
While the event is known for drawing the attendance of many residents, this month’s event saw a noticeably smaller turnout.
Typically, the street is packed with people exploring everything the event has to offer.
However, as vendors displayed their creations along the street, the energy that Art Crawl is known for was noticeably absent.
Seemingly, many businesses that typically stayed open later for the event closed their doors during normal hours.
This has left some guests speculating as to why the last Art Crawl of the year has not gone out with a bang.
Liam Fleming, an attendee, shared his thoughts as to why the last Art Crawl event of the year never draws the same crowds.
“I think part of it is that most people are just experiencing that end of year burnout,” Fleming said. “Along with the cost of living going up, lots of peoples’ budgets have shrunk.”
Despite the quieter atmosphere, some vendors appreciated the more relaxed pace.
Dalton Singler, a vintage clothing vendor, shared his thoughts on the turnout.
“I kinda like the smaller crowd that’s out now because I can engage in conversations with people easier,” Singler said. “It’s kinda nice not dealing with a sea of people.”
Both vendors and attendees agreed that the event continues to play a vital role in supporting local artists and creating connections within the city.
Although Art Crawl has come to an end for this year, many are now looking forward for next year’s Art Crawl season.
