Popcorn, DIY keychains, and more at the FYE End Party

Above the Mohawk College cafeteria, students were posing for photos behind a photo station and laughing amongst themselves. The First Year Experience (FYE) End Party gave attendees an opportunity to create their own custom keychains for free. With no registration required to attend this Friday afternoon event, dozens of passersby took the time out of their days to participate.

Bhanu Shree, the Student Development Coordinator for Student Life, was assisting students and connected his laptop to a speaker to play pop music.

“We organize some fun events, so today we are making some cool keychains. And these are so that students can DIY all their keychains and have a fun party for the end of their FYE,” Shree said.

The FYE End Party was scheduled to last from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. that Friday afternoon.

When free food is on the table, students can’t resist flocking to the source. A line formed at the table serving popcorn and kept coming until every kernel was gone. A bowl of candy, reminiscent of the Halloween that had passed only a week prior, sat near the popcorn stand.

The vanilla cake was unveiled about an hour into the event, and it was gone within minutes.

Small key chain designs
Design options for key chains included fruit, flora, objects, symbols such as stars and hearts, and several different kinds of animals.

The FYE End Party ended twenty minutes before it was supposed to, but the supplies had run out and most students had already gone home. The sun set as well, darkening the C-Wing halls.
