New corner store opens at Mohawk

Say “hello” to the newest food provider at Mohawk College.

Last month, the Fennell campus opened a corner store selling various sweets, chips, soft drinks and protein bars.

Darren Richardson, the corner store manager, wants students to know the store offers something the others don’t.

“There is a large variety of healthy snacks and beverages, as well as crave-able and nostalgic favourites for students and staff alike,” Richardson said. “This variety and the centralized location make the new corner store special. Also, it was designed to be fully accessible to all.”

Richardson said he hopes that the store will be the student’s first choice in terms of where to get snacks and drinks on-the-go.

“The new store is filling in a gap in service levels currently on the campus,” Richardson said. “Snacking has become a very integral part of student’s diets and helps fuel them for learning. Before the store being open there were parts of the day where it was not easy or available at all to purchase a beverage or snack other than the vending machines.”

Aleister Humes, a 3rd year broadcasting student said he is slowly warming up to the store and is interested in seeing what it offers and how it will benefit students at school.

“I’m curious to explore it,” Humes said. “However, I would only consider visiting and purchasing items at [the corner store] if it has something that I need at a moment’s notice without the ability to get it anywhere else on campus.”

The store is currently having a contest for students to be able to win a paddleboard or a Monster Speaker. New products are added to the store weekly and more contests are to come.

The corner store is open Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
