Last month, Westdale gained another coffee shop with the grand opening of Next Door Café.
Café owner Iris Chow said she took over the business from her mother, who loved the Westdale area.
“She lived here for a little bit, and she just loved Westdale, loved the community,” Chow said. “Now she’s gone, she went back home, and I’m here for school, so I’m kind of just taking over her business.”
The small café sells a variety of baked goods such as muffins, croissants and cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. When it comes to caffeinated beverages, Next Door Café has a specialty.
“We are specialized in our espresso drinks, so we don’t do regular brew coffee, just because we are so small and it’s hard for us to keep the coffee fresh at all times,” Chow said. “I really recommend our lattes and flat whites.”
Louise Saldagna, who was visiting the café for the first time, said she is excited to come back again in the future.
“It’s so cute. I would definitely love to come back here. It seems like a nice place to study, the owners are super nice, and the coffee was amazing, I loved it,” Saldagna said.
“I like the art on the wall, it’s very cute, very lively. It gives [the shop] a lot of character, it makes it seem so homey and it has a very local feel to it,” she added.
Next Door Café is located at 990 King St. W., and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
