Mohawk College is looking for a new president

President and Chief Executive Officer of Mohawk College Ron J. McKerlie announced Thursday (Sept. 7)  that he is stepping down from his position to spend more time with his family. McKerlie will continue to serve as the president of the college and the Mohawk Collage Foundation until his five-year contract ends on July 31, 2024.

The president says it’s a natural time for the transition.

“I recently turned 65 and I have had an exciting and demanding career… While I intend to continue to contribute to the community in some fashion after leaving the college, I don’t expect it will be in a full-time capacity,” McKerlie said.

He leaves behind college partners like The Mohawk Students’ Association (MSA) that say he’s made it the envy of other student unions.

“I certainly appreciate the mentorship and support he’s provided the MSA and our student leaders over the past many years… I wish him well in his plans,” Wendy Rolfe, MSA director of student experience, said.

A selection committee, made up of representatives from the college and foundation boards, will begin the formal search for McKerlie’s replacement this fall and share the results with the college community once they’ve decided. McKerlie said he will assist with the transition if a new applicant is chosen ahead of his contract end-date.
