Mohawk adds a new restaurant on campus: How is The Chopped Leaf different? How does it compare?

Last week Mohawk College welcomed a new restaurant to the Fennell campus, as The Chopped Leaf is now open in the EA wing. See the full list of the dining options on campus below.

The Chopped Leaf adds to Mohawk’s food choices by providing guests with fresh meals focusing on healthy options as well as meals for people with different dietary restrictions.

The choices include customizable salads, bowls, wraps, sandwiches and soups that are all vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-friendly.

“I thought the options were decent [at The Chopped Leaf], but I was underwhelmed with what I received,” said Zack Gorfe.

“My wrap was cold and the communication seemed confusing, I’d never ordered there before… I felt like the customer service was a bit rough and it was more expensive than I was expecting.”

For most college students price is a priority when it comes to food, especially when grabbing a meal out.

At The Chopped Leaf, wraps cost $9.99 and bowls/salads cost $11.99 with an additional four to five-dollar fee to add protein. Also on the menu are Sandwiches and quesadillas which cost ~$10.49.

Comparing this to other similar dining options on campus, Urban Fork’s prices for wraps and bowls are relatively the same without the additional meat fee. While the burgers and sandwiches are between $7.99 and $9.99.

“The food options [at the school] are pretty limited in my opinion, I do like Blends & Curries and Subway, however, most of the stuff is fast food and high-calorie options,” said Vrutik Prajapati.

On average, a footlong at subway costs about $11.86 and a six-inch sub costs about $7.62 although with combos the prices increase.

“The costs aren’t very affordable, it’s not the most cost-effective way to eat. I try to bring something from home or I’ll drive home in between classes to cook something quick if I need,” said Gorfe.

The Chopped Leaf brings healthier options and lots of customization to the dining mix at Mohawk, ultimately leaving students to decide if the food fits within their budgets.
